A special Friday

Today is friday, the 10th of May - a milestone. Thank god it's friday - that's usually the mood on the last day of the week. I am on my way to the office, just as every other morning but today is not one of these "TGIF"-fridays, today is my last day, not only in this company but also as a employee in general, at least for a unknown while. Two months ago I handed in my notice, happy, full of joyful anticipation. Since then I am counting days - on the 28th of May I'll fly to South Africa. Now, the day is here, I have to say"Goodbye, dear colleagues". I've been working in this company for almost two and a half years, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.

Now, the gate opens for me for the last time, I sit down at my desk, that my colleagues decorated for me. Since I met Miguel, my partner and my best friend, this free spirit, that showed me that there is more to life than just a nine-to-five-job, I am longing for more. I want to explore the world, I want to be my own boss, I want to do what my heart desires. And today is the day where I get all of this. "Yeah, you made it", some of my colleagues say. Yeah, well..

The last week felt like a rollercoaster-ride to me. Day by day the reality, that I will be gone very soon, kicked in even more. Monday seemed to be fine, until I realized after work that this was my last monday at this company. Tuesday I woke up with a weird feeling - only four out of five left. Wednesday - oh man, it was getting serious. Thursday, the day before my last day. And now it's friday, now here I am. I say goodbye to colleagues that became friends. People, who saw me every day, who got to know me and who shared so much with me. I waited so long for this moment, where I set myself free from that job, to be able to jump into this new adventure. But now, that this big turningpoint of my life is really happening, there is not a lot left of this loud, fearless anticipation of mine. Change and especially goodbyes always used to be difficult for me, so I knew that today would not be an easy one. I knew that it would be hard to leave but was and still am 100% certain, that this is the right way to go. If there is one thing that I learned during the past weeks, it's the fact that a decision can be right and unbelievably painful at the same time. That sometimes, you might be super excited about the future but on the other hand terribly sad that you have to leave something very special behind for that.

Dear colleagues who actually became good friends - this is for you. Thank you for almost two and a half years of laughter, inside-jokes, shared joy, shared stories, long chats, an amazing cooperation, with some little fights but at the end of the day with the feeling of community. Thank you for telling and listening, for laughing and being upset together, thank you for your friendship and for your time. Thank you that you have been such a big part of my life. I will miss you a lot. We will see each other soon, yours Sarah.
